Healthy Habits That Can Come Back to Haunt You

person-original

Sometimes things that seem like smart or healthy ideas are actually mistakes in disguise. Check to see if any of your habits are on this list!

Avoiding Fat in Foods

Maintaining a healthy weight is important for general wellness but cutting out all fats in your diet can actually cause more problems. It is important to eat healthy balanced foods because removing all fats from your diet can cause dry skin, low levels of hormones, inability to absorb vitamins and excessive hunger. Instead be selective about the fats you consume and consume healthy fats like nuts, seeds, avocados and olive oil.

Brushing your Teeth Right After Eating

If you have food or drink that is acidic (such as seltzer, soda, citrus or tomatoes) brushing your teeth within 30 minutes can actually scratch the acid into the enamel of your teeth and erode the enamel. Instead try rinsing your mouth with water just after eating and waiting at least 30 minutes to brush.

Reusing Grocery Bags

When was the last time you washed your reusable grocery bags?  Using reusable grocery bags is great for the environment but many times the inside of your grocery bags have bacteria that could make you sick. After using your grocery bags make sure to throw them into the washer and dryer to make sure they are clean, bacteria free and ready to use again.

Stretching Before Exercising

Stretching a cold muscle can actually strain or tear it. Doctors have found that doing gentle lower intensity versions of the movement patterns you will be doing in your workout is much better for your muscles. Save the stretching for your cooldown after exercise.
