The Future Is Near: Driverless Cars

The Future Is Near: Driverless CarsAre You Ready For The Road To The Future?

Driverless cars might seem like something from a sci-fi movie, but they are about to become a reality. By 2017, you can expect to see these vehicles on the road.

Several luxury vehicles already have technology leaning in this direction, such as technology that parallel parks your vehicle for you. Building on this tech, manufacturers say that driverless cars should be ready to navigate busy city streets in 2022. These cars are projected to make up a quarter of worldwide auto sales by 2035.

General Motors has said that they will have hands-free driving technology available in the Cadillac in two years, following closely behind Mercedes, who projects that their hands-free system will be available by 2016. Tesla is preparing to release self-driving technology sometime this year.

This technology will cost between $2,000 and $10,000 in the first few years, but should decline in price by around 10 percent by 2027. While Asian and European markets are likely to adopt the new technology more quickly, Americans can expect to see driverless cars on the road soon.
